Tell Time

In this topic we will learn to read and write time.

Topic: Read and Write Time

  • The shorter hand is the hour hand. It tells you the hour

  • The longer hand is the minute hand. It tells you the number of minutes

  • A.M. is a name for time from 12 midnight to 12 noon. P.M. is a name for time from 12 noon to 12 midnight

  • Since breakfast is eaten in the morning, we use A.M.(between 12 midnight to 12 noon)  to represent breakfast time. Lunch and Dinner is eaten after noon, so, we use P.M. (12 noon to 12 midnight) to represent lunch and dinner time

Topic: Count by 5s and 1s

  • The shorter hand is the hour hand. It tells you the hour. The longer hand is the minute hand. It tells you the number of minutes

  • There are 4 small marks between 12 and 1. Each mark represent 1 minute

  • When the minute hand moves from 12 to 1, 5 minutes pass. Similarly, when the minute hand moves from 1 to 2, 5 minutes pass and so on

  • Count by 5s: Start at the 12 and count by 5s

  • When the minute hand is between two numbers count by 1s
