Subtract Greater Numbers

Two numbers can be subtracted using the Trade First Subtraction Method. The number to be subtracted is the subtrahend and the other number is the minuend

Subtract the digits in the ones place. If subtracting these digits gives a negative number, trade 1 ten for 10 ones. If there are no tens to trade, regroup the hundreds first

Subtract tens and hundreds the same way. 1 hundred = 10 tens

Check the answer by adding the subtrahend and the difference. It should be equal to the minuend

Left to Right Subtraction Method can be used to subtract two numbers

Write the subtrahend as Thousands + Hundreds + Tens + Ones. Then start at the left and subtract column by column

If the difference is a negative number, regroup. If there is no digit to regroup, regroup the digit in the next place
