Primes and Composites

In this topic, we learn to find if a number is prime, composite or neither. We also learn to find the prime factorization of a composite number.

Topic: Prime and Composite Numbers

  • A prime number has exactly two different factors - 1 and the number itself

  • A composite number has more than different two factors

  • For example: 13 has exactly two factors, that is, 1 and 13 itself. So, 13 is a prime number

  • 4 has more than two factors, that is, 1, 2, and 4. So, 4 is a composite number

  • 1 and 0 are neither prime nor composite

Topic: Prime Factorization using Tree Method

  • A factor of a given number is called a Prime factor if this factor is a Prime number

  • Prime factorization is expressing a number as a product of its Prime factors
