Using Point-Slope Form

This topic deals with forming the point-slope equation of a line, using the slope and a point on the line. We also learn to find the slope and a point the line passes through from the equation.

Topic: Point-Slope Form of an Equation

  • The point-slope form of an equation of a line with slope ‘m’ passing through (x1, y1) is y – y1 = m(x – x1)

  • From the equation written in point-slope form, we can get the slope of the line and the point through which it passes

  • Given the slope of a line and the point through which it passes, we can find the equation of the line using the point-slope form of an equation

Topic: Word Problems

  • The point-slope form of an equation of a line with slope ‘m’ passing through (x1, y1) is y – y1 = m(x – x1)

  • Given the slope of a line and the point through which it passes, we can find the equation of the line using the point-slope form of an equation

  • Slope of a line = rise/run
